£4bn investment for NHS digital transformation

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced his intentions to bring the NHS into the 21st century with more than £4 billion of investment as part of the ‘digital transformation' plan. £1 billion of that will go towards information-security, pegged as a looming problem for the NHS, which handles the medical data of most of the UK population. £1.8 billion will be used to advance the NHS long awaited transformation to a  paperless system. Google researcher finds serious flaw in Avast secure browser

A security researcher has found a serious bug in Avast's secure web browser, Avastium, that could allow a hacker to “read any file on the filesystem by clicking a link”. According to a posting on Google's Security Research website by Tavis Ormandy, the vulnerability uses a specially-crafted JavaScript web page that could bypass built-in checks and potentially allow a criminal to read cookies, email and even interact with online banking. Fake survey offer lures Amazon users in email phishing scam

A new phishing email posing as Amazon has been targeting users of the online retailer by luring them to complete a survey for the chance to win some cash. According to Net Security, a link that users receive in their email sends them to a compromised web page that was made to appear as Amazon's login page. [Read more]

Clean house to keep WordPress infection from coming back again and again

A security researcher has discovered a malvertising campaign that injects malware code into WordPress websites. Denis Sinegubko, a senior malware researcher at Sucuri Security, said in a blog post that he had noticed a spike in WordPress infections where hackers injected encrypted code at the end of all legitimate javascript files.
