Imation has launched the new version of its ACCESS management system to add location-based security policy management for USB devices.

Offering management for Imation's secure USB products (including Imation Defender, MXI Security and McAfee secure USB devices), it said that ACCESS 4.1 offers location-based security policies that help protect against data leakage and theft; and the ability to remotely disable devices by soft-blocking or remotely killing the drive's contents if necessary.

The company said that rules can also be set so that they can only be unlocked at IP addresses that have been evaluated as trusted, and require that devices must ‘call home' to an ACCESS Enterprise Server (the managed version of ACCESS) before allowing the device to unlock.

Lawrence Reusing, Imation's general manager for mobile security, said: “As enterprise organisations embrace the mobile workforce, IT departments are confronting a new set of hazards to the security of sensitive data.

“Our latest ACCESS software adds tools administrators need to decide exactly where secure USB devices can be unlocked, helping better protect digital data on the move.”
