Kaspersky Lab has warned of hackers planting malicious code on around 10,000 servers.

CEO Eugene Kaspersky claimed that between 2,000 and 10,000 servers have been hit in Western Europe and the US in the last two days, though they are not sure who is responsible.

Kaspersky claimed that the hackers are attacking exposed web accounts or using an SQL injection attack. He said that attackers are tricking the web software into inadvertently running malicious commands, which follows a similar attack earlier in the year that compromised over 1.5 million web pages.

“Things are still developing, and the similar nature of the malicious programs used in both attacks leads us to think this new wave of attacks is potentially pretty serious" said Kaspersky.
