Law firm Linklaters has selected the Cryptocard Blackshield Cloud authentication-as-a-service solution for its office-based and remote workers.

This solution was initially deployed to 5,200 UK-based users who will be able to access the corporate network using a tokenless, secure login from any PC, laptop or smartphone, following a decision to move away from hard tokens.

According to the company, Cryptocard Blackshield Cloud allows organisations to protect any point of access where a password is currently used from a single point of control.

Jon Segger, information security manager at Linklaters, said: “The security of our systems and data is paramount to our business and the integrity of our firm and there is no room to compromise on this. However, our security needs to be flexible enough to accommodate the changing needs of our workforce yet enable us to be fully operational at all times to meet the needs of our clients.

“Above all, we are a commercial business and need to keep our operational costs down. With Cryptocard Blackshield Cloud, we are getting best in class authentication that can flex as we grow or our business needs change, whilst reducing our authentication outlay.”

The solution will be integrated into the existing security suite and used across network applications, including Citrix and email.

Neil Hollister, CEO of Cryptocard, said: “For security-conscious organisations like Linklaters, authentication is not a new phenomenon but almost a necessary evil, if you like. Industry adoption has been hampered historically due to the cumbersome nature of authentication and the cost of both managing the system and the deployment of tokens. With Cryptocard Blackshield Cloud, for the first time authentication is easy to manage, easy to deploy, easy to use and easy on the bottom line.”
