Lincolnshire County Council had to turn off all network computers earlier this week after being hit by ransomware on 300 of the staff's computers.

The breach exposed the medical records, addresses and bank details of local people and though emails were not iinitially impacted by the breach, they've now been affected according to The Register

“We have a suspected security incident caused by malware. We closed down our systems very quickly to protect the data and are investigating the cause but at this stage have found no evidence of any breach,” said Judith Hetherington Smith, CIO at Lincolnshire County Council.

A spokesperson for the council advised that it remains unclear if servers or data stores have been affected. The ransomware spread into the system after a staff member opened a suspect email attachment. The council's networks are currently still down, expecting to return sometime next week.
