New Microsoft poll suggests that lottery spam is now fastest growing area of cybercrime.

According to a survey of 3,600 internet users across Europe, fifty per cent of spam emails are now lottery scams. The poll revealed that 16 per cent who received lottery spams opened them. More seriously, three percent of said that they had lost money to lottery scammers in the last 12 months.

Ed Gibson, Chief Security Adviser for Microsoft UK said: "The scams are of increasing concern to international law enforcement, offering criminals a low-risk opportunity to steal money from Internet users.”
