The Get Safe Online national internet security awareness initiative is now being supported by the National Fraud Authority (NFA).

Joining the likes of the Cabinet Office, Home Office, BIS, SOCA, Microsoft, PayPal, Ofcom, Gumtree and VeriSign, the NFA claimed its role in the initiative forms part of its broader efforts to unite the UK's counter-fraud community and implement the Government's national fraud strategy.

Bernard Herdan, National Fraud Authority chief executive, said: “One role of the National Fraud Authority is to educate consumers about the threat of fraud, including online fraud. This partnership with Get Safe Online will help us reach more people to encourage them to report these crimes to Action Fraud, the UK's first national fraud reporting contact centre.”

Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online, said: “Making sure internet users are aware of the key risks and have the right information to help protect themselves is a challenging task, and needs cooperation from multiple stakeholders to be as effective and wide-reaching as possible – from individual internet users, through to businesses, technology providers, law enforcement and Government.

“Get Safe Online is delighted to welcome the National Fraud Authority to support our efforts and lend its expertise to the work we do.”

The decision was also welcomed by chairman of the new e-Crime Reduction Partnership, Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, who called it ‘a clear indication that Government bodies are pulling together with business leaders to support Get Safe Online and a joined-up approach to tackling crime and nuisance activity on the internet'.
