IBM has announced the launch of new software to incorporate technology acquired from BigFix.

Following the completed acquisition last month, IBM said that the new software will deliver greater security and compliance to endpoints by automating some of the most time-intensive IT tasks.

It said that the new software provides built-in intelligence that identifies all of a company's PCs, laptops, servers, point-of-sale and virtualised devices and flags when devices are not in compliance with corporate IT standards.

According to IBM, key features of the BigFix Unified Management Software Platform are: improved virtualisation management to display all virtual and physical assets in a single view; and a new role-based interface to include role-specific views so IT staff can view the status of IT assets according to key functional areas such as endpoint management, security, audit compliance, provisioning or IT operations.

Amrit Williams, CTO of BigFix technology at IBM, said: “As organisations become increasingly more complex, virtualised and distributed, it is critical for them to take proactive steps to secure and manage their IT environment in a consolidated and automated way. With BigFix's new virtualisation and interface breakthroughs, IT staff can better manage and secure their IT environments.”

Upgrading BigFix deployments to version 8.0 requires no reboots and customers can upgrade as fast as their change control allows. The software can also help expedite clients' migrations to the Windows 7 operating system.
