Oracle has been given the go-ahead to take over Sun Microsystems.

BBC News reports that the US Justice Department has given its approval for the $7.4 billion (£4.5 billion) acquisition that was agreed by the two companies in April this year.

The acquisition gives Oracle control over Java, a key programming language used in its products, which had been the cause of the delay with questions asked about licensing.

The deal is expected to be finalised at the end of the summer after IBM abandoned its own attempts to buy Sun earlier this year.
