The new version of Blue Coat Systems' PacketShaper software features an intelligent structure for the automatic discovery of applications.
Version 8.7 of PacketShaper also features web content categories to make it easier to understand application usage. It can also add automated hierarchical grouping of applications and content for the quick monitoring and control of groupings such as social media, business-critical applications, business data and web threats.
PacketShaper combines the ability to see and manage web and non-web applications, web content and web threats. The new software also doubles the capacity for managing remote sites using an existing PacketShaper 12000 appliance.
Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president at Blue Coat Systems, said: “Application visibility and control are increasingly critical now that typical web usage consumes more than 50 per cent of a company's network, and video and aggressive applications can easily incapacitate business-critical applications.
“PacketShaper appliances provide full visibility of applications, web content and web threats, combined with strong bandwidth and application controls to bring network usage in line with business priorities.”
