Real Madrid has selected ARCserve backup software from CA Technologies to help ensure the protection, availability and recovery of all the club's corporate data and systems.

According to the company, ARCserve combines innovative disk and tape backup features to include data deduplication, granular restore and infrastructure visualisation. The ARCserve backup software has been implemented by Real Madrid to protect its entire information systems, from databases and email to business process systems such as HR, finance and customer relationship management systems.

Ten terabytes of data is stored across 30 servers and the storage area network that form the data centre's centralised architecture, located at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The use of CA ARCserve will be extended to virtualised environments, which are currently being implemented.

José Manuel Peña Arroyo, IT manager at Real Madrid, said: “Thanks to CA ARCserve we know that our data is protected, and we can ensure business continuity and compliance. The reliability of the product is the most remarkable characteristic, as well as its easy adaptation and responsiveness to our evolving needs, all of it at an optimum cost.”

Chris Ross, vice president of data management at CA Technologies, said: “We are delighted to be working with Real Madrid, a highly respected football club which clearly understands how to maximise their performance with good data recovery and backup.

“Real Madrid's decision to use CA ARCserve is supporting their backup and recovery strategy so the club can keep running at the speed it needs to keep one step ahead, both on and off the field.”
