Biometric systems are increasingly moving into the market for personal data management and security.
ABI Research is expecting laptops, mobile phones, storage drives and other personal devices to include biometric options to provide an additional layer of access security in the future.
Jonathan Collins, ABI Research principal analyst, said: “Biometrics players increasingly have to support both public and private sector demand. It will be those that leverage the key biometric standards initially developed for the public sector but with scope for private sector deployments that will reap the benefits.”
Collins further claimed that biometrics systems will become more and more commonplace in workplaces to protect physical and logical access to key resources, with spending driven on biometrics systems over the next five years up to $7.3 billion, up from around $3 billion in 2008 both government, law enforcement and private sectors.
