Sophos has launched a new version of its endpoint security solution to include patch assessments, web protection and filtering and encryption.

The launch of Sophos Endpoint 10 allows the company to integrate patch management, web filtering and full-disk encryption into the suite.

According to the company, the Patch Assessment function identifies, prioritises and scans for critical threat-related security patches in Microsoft applications and for vendors such as Adobe, Apple, Citrix, Microsoft and Skype. The Web Filtering facility protects users from malicious sites with no additional software or infrastructure required and enables better performance for users as all scanning is done locally.

Finally, full-disk encryption in Sophos Endpoint ensures that data stored on desktops and laptops is kept secure, enabling IT staff to encrypt workstations and see their status.

Shaun Paice, vice-president of product management at Sophos, said: “Our goal has always been to provide customers with complete security and protection everywhere, without complexity.

“Sophos Endpoint 10 is the result of a close collaboration with our customers and partners: improved performance, client-side web protection, patch identification and prioritisation and integrated disk encryption management. It's easier than ever to find at-risk computers, manage alerts, set policies and clean up threats.”

Neil Graham, information security technician at Sanctuary Group, said: “The new functionality that Sophos has introduced in the latest release of the endpoint security and control product has, in my opinion, set it apart from other anti-virus vendors. Not only is this an anti-virus product, but it ensures that endpoints are being protected from every possible attack vector.”
