Sophos signs up execs from two of its rivals
Martin Johnson will become director of corporate marketing, joining from Trend, while Jill Murray has been named EMEA marketing director, moving from Symantec. The pair have about 30 years of experience in the technology industry.
Murray said: "I'm delighted to be joining Sophos and will enjoy building the brand in EMEA, getting the company greater recognition and attention in this competitive market."
They will be joined by a third recruit from outside the security space: Michael McGuinness is to become senior vice president of worldwide sales and operations. He will report directly to chief executive Steve Munford.
Sophos has warned of two security risks in the last week, both trying to capitalise on major news events.
Firstly, hackers have released a Trojan which is being sent out as a Word document containing a fake news story on the Chinese earthquake. The Trojan makes use of a vulnerability to download malware onto the user's machine if they open the attachment.
Secondly, a vendor of male enhancement products is sending out spam emails claiming to be from the domain mnchsterunited.com. Presumably they were trying to attract the interest of football fans, but they seem to have missed a trick - their emails contained absolutely no mention of the team's Champions' League triumph.
