Standard Life is to enhance its application security with the help of F5 and Vistorm.
In developing the fourth generation of its service orientated architecture (SOA) infrastructure platform, Standard Life wanted to implement an architecture that was fully fault-tolerant and had no scalability constraints, while delivering increased application protection.
It opted for F5's BIG-IP ASM that will enable F5's BIG-IP layer 7 load balancing capability to be a key enabler of the SOA architecture. The functionality of the application security manager (ASM) supports compliance with PCI DSS, HIPAA, Basel II, and SOX regulations without the need for application changes or rewrites, or separate devices to perform different tasks.
The project was supported by Vistorm. CTO Dan Turner, said: “During the competitive evaluation, F5 came up against some very well-known companies, but the capabilities of the ASM and the agile BIG-IP application delivery platform - coupled with Vistorm's strategic risk-based complete information security approach - were the differentiators.
“The solution met all of Standard Life's core requirements and will be an effective base from which to launch further planned IT initiatives as well.”
Martin Symmers, SOA enterprise architect at Standard Life, said: “Our vision for the next generation of our world-class SOA platform includes removing scalability barriers, increasing security, and maximising service capabilities with minimal impact to the user experience.
“We concluded that, to deliver on our goals, we needed to implement powerful application-layer load balancing and security capabilities while minimising infrastructure complexity.”
