Symantec has announced the release of version 12 of its Endpoint Protection product.
Using Symantec's community and cloud-based reputation technology Insight, it leverages the technology by 70 per cent by automatically identify and whitelist Symantec-trusted high-reputation files, eliminating significant scanning activity from each endpoint.
It also uses the hybrid behavioural-reputation engine SONAR to monitor running applications for suspicious behaviour in order to block zero-day and highly targeted threats in real-time. Symantec's intrusion prevention system (IPS) technology blocks attacks at the network layer, before they can do damage to a computer.
For small businesses, there is a Small Business Edition of Symantec Endpoint Protection that offers the same technologies with an installation wizard, pre-configured policy settings and automated notifications and reports.
Chirantan Desai, senior vice president of the endpoint and mobility group at Symantec, said: “Organisations of all sizes are at risk of targeted cyber attacks which continue to increase in size, scope and sophistication. Pairing our Insight technology with fast performance in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 gives all our customers peace of mind that they are always secure and productive.”
