In technology, new opportunity brings new risk

News by Ava Fedorov

At this week's Security & Risk Management Summit, hosted by Gartner Inc in the United States, analysts presented their top technology picks for information security, especially within organisations.

Neil MacDonald, vice president and Gartner Fellow, spoke of the need for companies to prepare for “advanced targeted attacks.” Business looking to move forward with the latest technologies face security complications arising from this “Nexus of Forces.”

Exposure to new technology and opportunity essentially exposes organisations to new risks as well. Noting this MacDonald added, “security and risk leaders need to fully engage with the latest technology trends if they are to define, achieve and maintain effective security and risk management programmes that simultaneously enable business opportunities and manage risk.”

2014's top 10 technologies for information security identified during the summit are:

·      Cloud access security brokers

·      Adaptive access control

·      Pervasive sandboxing (content detonation) and IOC confirmation

·      Endpoint detection and response solutions

·      Big data security snalytics at the heart of next-generation security platforms

·      Machine-readable threat Intelligence, including reputation services

·      Containment and isolation as a foundational security strategy
