The top 10 concerns that prevent enterprise businesses from moving their sensitive information to the cloud have been identified.
HexaTier's survey Database as a Service (DBaaS) Security Research 2016 collected information from over 500 IT leaders from various industries including financial services, healthcare, transportation, government, retail and more.
The top 10 concerns when moving data to the cloud include:
1. 1. Safety of data storage
2. 2. DBaaS provider can access your data
3. 3. Physical location of the production data and the backup data
4. 4. External users can access the database
5. 5. DBaaS regulatory compliance
6. 6. DDoS and performance attacks on the database
7. 7. Hidden sensitive data
8. 8. SQL injection attacks
9. 9. Data theft by authorised users
10. 10. Neighbour tenants can access your data
Almost half (47 percent) of survey respondents are using or evaluating DBaaS providers and 73 percent of respondents indicated that data security and compliance are the number one concerns when moving to DBaaS.
Almost half (44 percent of respondents) said security risks are a main reason that is preventing their companies from moving to DBaaS while 39 percent of respondents identified Compliance & Regulation as a main reason for prevention. Close to 20 percent of respondents stated that it was only a matter of time before they adopted a DBaaS solution.
“Enterprises understand the value the cloud offers; nearly half of the companies we surveyed are already evaluating or using DBaaS providers. Yet they need to find new ways to secure their data and comply with regulations. Our database reverse proxy technology offers cloud-ready unified database security which brings agility, scalability and ease-of-use to address these concerns,” said Dan Dinnar, CEO of HexaTier.
