Trend Micro has announced the launch of a hypervisor 'agnostic' virtualisation-aware endpoint security offering.

The OfficeScan 10.5 is now designed to solve the challenges unique to endpoints deployed in a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). According to the company, using OfficeScan enables enterprises to more than double the number of virtual machines per VDI host without sacrificing security.

It claimed that the temptation for enterprises is to deploy their existing non-virtualisation-aware endpoint security to their virtualised endpoints, and doing so poses significant performance challenges on the shared VDI server hardware, leaving end-users negatively impacted.

Integrated with Citrix XenDesktop and VMware View, OfficeScan 10.5 identifies virtualised endpoints and prevents resource contention by serialising scan operations and security updates. It also enables customers to maximise the number of virtualised desktops per host.

OfficeScan 10.5 also allows for more than 20,000 endpoints to be managed from one single OfficeScan Management Server.

Steve Quane, chief product officer at Trend Micro, said: “With OfficeScan 10.5, customers can realise the full benefits of desktop virtualisation. It also meets the new challenges our customers are facing and uniquely delivers comprehensive protection for both physical and virtual desktops from a single management console.”
