Trend Micro is to move its sales channel into the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) market.
With IDC projecting that the SaaS market will grow by more than 40 per cent annually in the next five years, Trend Micro's move into the arena will see it offer the ‘Worry-Free Business Security Hosted' for small offices, that protects multiple PCs and notebooks located in or out of the office from viruses and other threats.
As this is offered via SaaS, customers can centrally manage security from anywhere without adding a server or installing server software and Trend Micro can host and update the service virtually.
Later this year, Worry-Free Remote Manager channel solution partners will also be able to manage Worry-Free Business Security Hosted and Trend Micro SecureSite.
Steve Quane, general manager of SMB for Trend Micro, said: “A classic win-win. Customers win with hosted security from Trend Micro with lower maintenance requirements and no hardware costs. Channel partners win with increased margin and a closer customer relationship.”
Nikki Babatola, analyst at Canalys, said: “When sales are tough, partners will push projects/products which have shorter sales cycles, lower selling costs and earn them recurring revenue. The growth prospects of hosted security will accelerate the shift from traditional on-premise software to host across the whole value chain.”
