Trend Micro releases major upgrade to SME software
WorryFree Business Security Version 5.0 will include a feature called 'location awareness', which alters security settings on users' laptops depending whether they are in or out of the office.
Trend will produce two versions of the software: a Standard version for Microsoft-based PCs and servers and an Advanced version which will additionally include support for Exchange servers.
The security vendor also revealed the early stages of a security offering for online retailers. Worry-Free SecureSite will be a hosted service aimed at trying to ward off hackers and other would-be credit card data thieves.
SecureSite was launched for public beta testing on Sunday, and is expected to be commercially released in August.
"When Trend Micro introduced its first line of security products for small businesses, we were intent upon creating solutions that not only offered superior protection but were easy to use and required very little administration," said Steve Quane, executive general manager of Trend Micro's SME business unit. "This new and upgraded line of safer, smarter, simpler Worry-Free Security builds upon that foundation, except that we've made it more current and even better".
Trend launched the Worry Free range back in 2004.
The vendor will also start providing security for a popular third party software product. It said it will protect users of the QuickBooks accountancy software, having formed a partnership with the vendor of the product, Intuit.
Employees of smaller businesses take greater risks online than corporate workers, Trend argues.
