Trend Micro has signed an OEM agreement to bundle its internet security on selected ASUS laptops, desktops and premium Eee PC models.

Steve Chang, president of ASUS Computer International, said: “We chose Trend Micro because their consumer security products offer a strong yet practical defence against the full range of internet risks, from adware and spyware to viruses, worms, spam and more. Now, our customers can get quality protection for their professional laptops, desktops or high mobility, easy-to-use Eee PCs right out of the box.”

Trend Micro Internet Security is powered by the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network cloud-based infrastructure.

Carol Carpenter, executive general manager of consumer and small business for Trend Micro, said: “ASUS customers now have the convenience of getting powerful, pre-installed security along with their computers and laptops that doesn't slow down memory performance. No one is immune from cybercrime and identity theft – we're extending our mission to bring freedom and peace of mind to all who use the web on a daily basis.”

Meanwhile Intel has announced that it is to distribute ESET security software with its desktop boards. As a result of the distribution agreement, Intel Desktop Boards will include either a 45-day or one-year product licence for ESET Smart Security.

Clem Russo, vice president and general manager of Intel's client boards division, said: “We are pleased to offer ESET software as a security offering as we are constantly striving to bring the highest value and quality to our system integrators and end customers.

"Our customers require a high level of protection that won't simultaneously slow down their systems, and with ESET's proactive anti-virus technology, we are able to offer our users an additional level of threat protection without compromising system performance."

Larry McJannet, vice president of business development at ESET, said: “The distribution agreement between ESET and Intel underscores the importance of utilising complete proactive protection from the very beginning. By coupling Intel's premium motherboards with ESET's proven threat protection users will experience optimum performance and protection.”
