Two North Carolina men were arrested on Thursday for their alleged roles in hacking senior US government officials and US government computer systems.

Authorities say 22-year-old Andrew Otto Boggs, aka “INCURSIO,” and 24-year-old Justin Gray Liverman, aka “D3F4ULT,” conspired with members of the cyber-gang “Crackas With Attitude” to use social engineering tactics in order to gain unauthorised access to the personal online accounts of senior US government officials, their families, and several US government computer systems, according to a 8 Sept Department of Justice press release.

In some cases, the group posted stolen information on public sites and made harassing phone calls to victims, authorities said in the release.

At least three other suspects in the UK are also being investigated by the Crown Prosecution Service, the release said.

Boggs and Liverman are set to appear in federal court in Alexandria, Va, next week.
