UK mobile software and device detection firm 51Degrees has been hacked. The company has notified its customers of the breach via an urgent email.

The firm based in Reading, UK helps big players such as Microsoft, IBM, eBay and Disney by creating a smooth web experience across mobile, desktop and tablets. The company claims its software is used by over 1.5 million websites around the world.

“It has come to our attention that the website was victim of a cyber-attack between 5:21am and 5:40am (GMT) on Sunday 8th May 2016. We do not believe any personal information including payment information, email addresses, and contact names have been compromised. To prevent a recurrence of the attack, we have closed the exploit used by the attacker,” said founder James Rosewell in the message to customers.

Details of the exploit were not disclosed, however “additional security measures” were implemented to further secure the site. Action Fraud was advised of the situation and provided with relevant information.
