Verisign has announced the launch of a service bundle that is designed to minimise costly downtime and protect against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

Called the Verisign Uptime Bundle, it said that the cloud-based services help improve the performance, security and availability of websites, email and critical network services.

It combines: the Verisign managed domain name server (DNS) cloud-based hosting service that aims to improve web-based system availability by delivering DNS resolution; the Verisign Internet Defense Network (VIDN), which provides protection from DDoS attacks by detecting and filtering malicious traffic before it reaches a network; and Verisign iDefense Security Intelligence Services that offers access to cyber intelligence related to vulnerabilities, malicious code and global threats.

Ben Petro, senior vice president of the Verisign network intelligence and availability business, said: “Businesses can no longer rely on a single line of defence to ensure the availability of websites and applications under all conditions.

“With the Verisign Uptime Bundle, we're making it easier to maintain availability with world-class services at a price that many competitors charge for DNS hosting alone.”
