New multi-function security appliances to provide network, application and data security have been launched by WatchGuard.

The new XTM 5 is aimed at mid-market enterprise organisations with up to 1,500 users, and XTM 2 is ideal for small businesses and branch offices with up to 50 people. The company claimed that both appliances provide defence-in-depth protection that combines deep packet inspection, stateful packet inspection and proxy technologies for full application layer content inspection.

Based on the high-security Fireware XTM operating system, the XTM appliances are also capable of blocking Skype and instant messaging, file sharing and chat. They also help in eliminating threats from unauthorised websites, attacks buried in https packets and next generation threats, such as VoIP or unified communication hacks.

Tim Helming, director of product management at WatchGuard, said: “Businesses of all sizes are increasingly under attack from hackers, malware and botnets, while regulatory compliance is forcing them to recalibrate and recalculate risk management practices.

“The new WatchGuard XTM appliances offer powerful enterprise class multi-function protection for growing businesses, branch offices and mid-tier organisations that are flexible, scalable and affordable.”

Vinod Chamdal, UK sales manager at WatchGuard, said: “With XTM appliances, customers can choose which protection features they want in one appliance for their business – it's not an ‘all or nothing' proposition. The key is, now they have a choice to optimise network, application and data security with the right set of XTM appliances.”
