Webroot has announced a partnership with email encryption provider Zix Corporation.

Webroot has announced a partnership with email encryption provider Zix Corporation.

The deal will see Webroot embed the ZixCorp email encryption service into the next release of Webroot Email Security SaaS.

Scheduled for a summer 2009 release, the new version of the email encryption service will expand data loss prevention capabilities and improve the secure handling of confidential company data. It will feature customisable encryption policies that will allow automatic email encryption based on existing administration rules.

Eliminating the need for users to manage encryption keys, messages will be sent securely even if the recipient does not have encryption capabilities. Users can also encrypt communications on an as-needed basis.

Don Beck, Webroot general manager of SaaS, said: “Recent laws and compliance regulations demand that businesses encrypt email communications that contain certain confidential and personal information. ZixCorp's email encryption services are recognised for ensuring seamless and secure communications.  We're excited to move to the next phase of this partnership.”

Nigel Johnson, vice president of business development and product management, ZixCorp, said: “We're thrilled that Webroot has selected us as its email encryption partner. Webroot has proven experience as a security provider.  We're looking forward to a long and successful partnership as each of our companies continues on a course of rapid growth.”
