Alex Stamos, currently chief security officer at Yahoo, has announced he is moving to Facebook, starting on Monday, where he will have the same job title.

Alex Stamos, CSO at FacebookHe announced the move last night on Facebook and Twitter, saying: “I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Facebook as their Chief Security Officer next Monday.”

He replaces Joe Sullivan who left three months ago to join Uber

Stamos' colleagues on the Yahoo security team, who are known as the Yahoo Paranoids, congratulated him on the move. “Good luck at FB; their win, our loss. Hope you can move the needle fighting for the users,” said Jan Schaumann, Senior Principal Paranoid at Yahoo who, incidentally, does not have a Facebook page.

In his announcement, posted on Facebook, Stamos said: “There is no company in the world that is better positioned to tackle the challenges faced not only by today's Internet users but for the remaining 2/3rds of humanity we have yet to connect. The Facebook security team has demonstrated a history of innovation as well as a unique willingness to share those innovations with the world, and we will build upon that history in the years to come.”

He added: “I had a wonderful time at Yahoo and learned that the Yahoo Paranoids truly live up to their legend.”

Graham Cluley commented on his blog: "I get the feeling that Stamos cares deeply about internet privacy, and that has to be a good voice to have high up inside Facebook."
